A child is a blessing from the Lord. It is no wonder that their lives are such a joy to anticipate and a pleasure to make room for.
If you’ve recently had a baby, are expecting to give birth soon, or you’re simply a loving friend, family member, or significant other looking for blessings to cover the new baby in, these blessings are specially for you. They make great additions to baby showers and congratulations cards!
The word of God holds power. Though our words can bring encouragement, it is God’s word that ultimately brings life, blessing, and guidance.
These blessings are all based on scripture and can easily be turned into prayers of blessings for new babies.

New Baby Blessings
For Safety, Grace, & Peace
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26
May God bless and keep this baby safely through its course on the earth. May they know the Lord face to face and reside in Your presence all the days of their lives. May they be so fortunate to experience the grace of God in abundance. And may they find God in times of trouble, and rest in His perfect peace.
To Be Rooted in God’s Word
But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes;
Jeremiah 17:7-8
its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.
May this child grow up in a home that is rooted in the word of God. May they see those around them trust in the Lord with unwavering faith, and get to know this trustworthy God for themselves. May they grow into someone who finds their confidence and identity in Christ. May their roots in the word grow so deep that they can withstand whatever season comes their way, and bear fruit through it all.
To Be Committed To The Lord
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
Proverbs 16:3
May this child’s steps be committed to the Lord. May whatever they put their hand to be in accordance with His will for them. May God direct and establish every one of their plans.
For God To Meet Their Every Need
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
May the Lord meet the needs of this child from birth all through their life. May they know His kindness and providence and experience the riches of God’s glory in Christ Jesus.
To Experience The Goodness Of God
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalm 34:8
May this child come to know the Lord from a young age. May they taste the goodness of the Lord in their own lives and see it in the lives of those around them. May they find Him to be their refuge and their strength.
For Contentment & Rest
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.
Psalm 23:1-2
May the Lord lead this child into contentment. May they know no lack in the Lord because He cares for them as needed. May they experience the rest that He brings, that lead them to green pastures and quiet waters that refresh their souls.
For Protection
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.
Psalm 1:1
May this child be protected against those who will come across their path to mislead them and influence them toward evil. May they find friends who lead them to truth, encourage them toward good and love them enough to lead them on the right path.
For Wisdom & Reverence
How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.
Psalm 31:19
May the fear of the Lord be in the heart of this child. May they know wisdom because they have reverence for God. May they run to Him as their refuge and find His abundant goodness toward those who honor Him.
To Grow In The Fruit Of The Spirit
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23
May the fruit of the Spirit be evident in the life of this child. May they be an example of Christ to those around them and may their character reflect that of Christ. May they walk in love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

To Thirst For Righteousness
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Matthew 5:6
May this child have a passion to see the Lord’s will be accomplished on this one earth. But most importantly, may they have a desire to see His purposes accomplished in their lives. May their thirst be not for this world and the things of the world but righteousness. And may they see the Lord fulfill that desire in them.
For A Pure Heart
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Matthew 5:8
May the Lord bless this child with a heart that seeks Him. A heart that is pure before the Lord.
May they see the Lord working in their lives and be near Him all the days of their life.
To Be A Peacemaker
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Matthew 5:9
May this child be among those who are peacemakers. May they bring people together and unite them under Christ.
For Abundant Blessings
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

May this baby enjoy God’s gift of good health. May their growth and development be stable and healthy. May all go well with them, physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
For A Heart That Seeks God
Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.
Psalm 119:2
May the Lord’s word be hidden in the heart of this child. May their heart be toward Him, and their desire be to know Him more and make Him known. Make them know the blessing of keeping His word and the reward that it brings
To Live By Faith, Not By Sight
Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
John 20:29
Though this child may not see Jesus in the physical, may they come to know Him as their Lord and Savior. May they know how blessed it is to trust in Jesus, not due to sight but because of faith.
For Freedom in Christ
But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
James 1:25
May this baby find freedom in the word of the Lord. May His word be their guide and source of life in their time of earth. May they not simply become hearers of it but may they walk in it and be doers of the word. May they know the blessing of God in what they do.
To Sing Praises
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Ephesians 1:3
May this child be equipped with the spiritual blessing that the Lord has given us freely in Christ Jesus. May they grow up to sing praises to the Lord, who has blessed them with all they need in Jesus to live a faithful life.
To Accept Forgiveness
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
Psalm 32:1
May the Lord’s kindness find this child. As they grow up may they come to understand the great offense of human sin and the undeserving gift of grace that is found in Christ Jesus. May they come to accept that free gift of grace, and find forgiveness for their sins.
To See The Love Behind Discipline
Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
Job 5:17
May this child know that they are being looked out for. May they know that the discipline of the Lord and His guidance to their parents are for their benefit. May they see the care and love of the Lord’s instruction and not despise it. But instead, may they be grateful for it and see the blessing of the Lord in His correction.
