Bible Verses for Baby Showers & Cards

1. Jeremiah 1:5

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5

I have always loved this scripture. Though you are yet to know that sweet baby, God has known him/her even before they were formed.

Not only that, but He has a purpose for their lives in relation to His kingdom. It’s never too early in a child’s life to pray over their purpose and calling in their lives on earth.

2. Psalm 127:3-5

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.”

Psalm 127:3-5

There are so many good gifts that the Lord blesses us with daily. Children are one of them.

In Genesis God instructs Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply because children are a part of His good plan for the world. You are among the blessed to be experiencing this new life.

3. Psalm 139:13

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Psalm 139:13

I love that this scripture is in the first person. You can imagine the baby saying these words to God because it is true about them.

He has and is knitting them in their mother’s womb and has created every single part of them, inside and out.

4. Psalm 139:14

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Psalm 139:14

What more can be said about this beautiful scripture? The Lord has made that baby fearfully and wonderfully and we all know that full well. What a beauty to one day behold!

5. 1 Samuel 1:27

“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him.”

1 Samuel 1:27

If you’re a mother who has been trying for a baby for a while, this scripture is sure to resonate deeply with you. The Lord is so kind in not only hearing our prayers but answering them too.

6. 3 John 1:4

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

3 John 1:4

There is nothing better than seeing your child walking in the path of truth. That is one prayer that you can pray over their lives for many years to come.

7. Isaiah 54:13

“All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.”

Isaiah 54:13

The Lord is the greatest teacher that any child can have. In Him, they will not only find life and truth but peace along with it.

8. Philippians 4:6

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Philippians 4:6

For the stressed-out mammas, this one’s for you as you anticipate all the arrangements leading up to the delivery and every moment afterward. He is with you and is listening out for your prayers.

9. Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

I love how this doesn’t say “have I not suggested to you?” but rather “have I not commanded you?”

The Lord guarantees that He will be with you through every stage of pregnancy and motherhood. That is why He is so strong about you taking courage and finding strength in Him. He will be with you through it all.

10. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”

2 Thessalonians 3:16

Though this is an exciting time, for many reasons it can also welcome various stresses and fears. God knows the things that weigh on you and He wants to give you His peace in exchange for your anxieties. Take them to Him in prayer.

I hope that these bible verses can be used to encourage mom-to-be in these last few moments before the baby makes their way into the world.

Baby Shower Prayers

1. Prayer for the expecting parents

Lord,

How kind You have been to the parents of this treasured child. You have a special place in Your heart for these little ones, and it is so clear that You have blessed his/her parents by giving them such an incredible blessing.

I just want to lift them both up before You, Lord, that You would surround them with Your strong arm for the long nights that are ahead. I pray that Your Holy Spirit will give them wisdom for the daily decisions that they will need to make as they parent this baby each day.

My prayer is that they would find their source of life in You and that their child would be loved, cared for, and raised from the outflow of their relationship with You. I pray that You would help them become a team in raising their baby and that You would bless them with so much joy as this child enters their lives. May this special time be a memorable one for their new family (and all family members who will be part of their journey).

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

2. Prayer for the baby’s life

Dear God,

You are the author of life. It is such a privilege to be able to see the miracle of life grow over time and meet a uniquely, purposefully made person at the end of it all. What a perfect gift from heaven! I want to thank You for this baby’s life. Thank You for allowing us to experience Your goodness in the form of this precious child’s life.

Heavenly Father, I pray over this baby’s life. I pray that they would know not only the love of those around them but that they would experience Your sacrificial love even as an infant. I pray that home would be a safe space where they can grow, be nurtured, and become who You have created them to be.

My prayer is that this child’s life, even from a young age, would be a blessing to others. I pray that they would follow in Your example as servants and not only serve others well but serve You with their lives, and be passionate about seeing the Kingdom of God come and Your will be done. Deep inside my heart, I am confident that God’s heart and God’s plan for this baby (even from the time it was just an unformed body) is full of good things and hope.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

3. Prayer for a safe delivery

Almighty God,

You have been so gracious in bringing the baby so far along in this pregnancy. I thank You for keeping them healthy, safe, and growing with every passing month. You are their life source, and I am so thankful that You have kept them strong and stable.

As the time draws closer so does the time for delivery. There are so many aspects connected to delivery that can be outright scary. Thoughts about what could go wrong, the pain that comes with it, and more can be very paralyzing. I pray that You would calm any nerves or anxious thoughts that lead to fear. I pray for rest in Your perfect plan as the delivery time approaches.

More than anything, Lord God Almighty, I pray for a safe delivery of the little child. I pray that this sweet reward of Yours would come full circle and that this little one would come into the world with a loud, healthy, and joyful cry in a very powerful way. The gift of a newborn child is a new chapter of testimony waiting to be written. Great things are coming!

It’s in Your name, I pray, amen.

4. Prayer For Mother’s Health

Abba Father,

As someone who cares deeply for this baby and their mother, I just want to enfold her in prayer today. The baby’s health is only as good as the mother’s health and well-being and I know that the baby feels and is affected by the things that affect its mamma’s health.

I pray that she will not only take good care of herself but will be surrounded by those who care for her and the baby. I pray that the foods and drinks that she has will be to the benefit of the baby and her health. I pray that she will be motivated to do any physical activities that are good for her during this time.

Lastly, I pray against any illness or medications that she may have to take, that You would guard her against illness, or help her recover speedily in the case of sickness. Keep her in the palm of your hands and help her steady her mind on You, and experience Your perfect peace.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

5. Prayer for a loving community for the baby & parents

Christ Jesus,

Thank You for this precious baby. As they make their way into this world, there is so much that they will learn and be introduced to. My prayer is that You would surround them with people who truly care for their well-being, and who they are as a person.

I pray that You would surround this family with people who are there in the good times but also in the difficult times. People who will join in the joy and sit together in the sorrow. People who will encourage, equip, love, and lead this child in Your way.

My prayer is that they would be blessed with a village that cares for them deeply and prays for them sincerely.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Conclusion

We are reminded of the power and significance of coming together in prayer during this special event. Through special prayers, we have lifted up the expectant mother, her baby, and their growing family to the throne of grace.

During the excitement and joy of a baby shower, let us not forget the importance of seeking God’s Word and spending time in the secret place of prayer. It is in these moments of communion with our Heavenly Father that our faces truly shine with His love and grace.

Let us surround her with our good works and acts of kindness. May she feel supported and cherished by the group of people gathered around her, including her baby’s siblings (if any) who eagerly await the arrival of their new family member.

Let us continue to uphold pregnant women everywhere in our daily prayers, lifting them before the Lord and entrusting them to His care. And as we rejoice in the great news of new life, let us remember that each child is a precious gift from God, fearfully and wonderfully made with their own details and purpose.
