Use these ready-to-say prayers for my son I use as a way to intentionally ask the Lord for guidance for your own son every day of his life.

If you’re blessed to have a son in your life, there are many different ways that he could use your loving prayers over his life. As he steps into the world, he will come to face decisions, people, situations and seasons in his life that will shape him.

Though our protective eyes and loving arms can’t always embrace our sons, there is One who is always able to reach out to him. That is why I’ve compiled these 8 prayers for sons, that you can pray over the different areas of his life daily, no matter how close or far you are from him.

Prayers for My Son

Prayer for Wisdom in Decisions

Father,

Your Word says that if anyone lacks wisdom, he should ask of You and You will give it. We all need wisdom at different stages of our lives. My son will have many decisions that he will make throughout his life. Some of those decisions will have consequences, and others will teach him valuable lessons. Although any parent’s hope is that our child makes the right decisions, I know it is important for him to grow through good and poor decisions.

My prayer is that You would remind him of Your word, whenever he is faced with a major decision. In fact, I pray that he would lean on You in even the decisions that seem small, and so grow his trust in You. Please grant him wisdom in the daily decisions that he will face. When he is unsure of what to do or where to go, I pray that he will seek Your face and find Your counsel. Lord. May every decision he makes grow him in wisdom and understanding.

Prayer for Provision Over His Life

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are the Giver of all things good. You have provided for Your people all throughout scripture, and I can attest to Your kindness. I know it can be so easy for us to depend on our own strength, wisdom or abilities when it comes to our needs. You have given us skills and resources and we are to be grateful for them, but in the same breath, we should never think what we have is because of ourselves. I pray that You will teach my son this truth.

May he know where his help comes from. When he is struggling, Lord, I pray that he will bring his burdens and needs before You. I pray that You will lead him to find rest in Your presence and provide for His needs. Remind him that he does not need to feel ashamed to ask for help, many times it’s Your way to provide for us. Please give him eyes to see how You take care of him, and a heart that is grateful for all You’ve done for him.

Prayer for His Faith in God

Father,

Though there is an endless list of things that I could pray over my son, there is none as important as this. It is my great desire that my son would know you personally. Above physical health, material gain, and every other career success; his relationship with you is vital. Please, help him to see You as his treasure. If there is anything that is keeping him from giving over the full reins of his life to You, I pray that You would move in that area of his life. Remove any obstacles that are blocking his view of You.

Help him to grow in the knowledge of Your word. May he get to know you as He searches the scriptures, and help him gain a better understanding of who You are. I pray that You will send other men of Christ into his life, who will walk this road with him and draw him closer to You. Let his faith become the foundation of all the other aspects of his life. May his faith set him apart and shine as a bright light in a darkened world.

Prayer for a Repentant Heart

Lord,

You say in Your word that You do not desire burnt offerings. Instead, the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit and a contrite heart. As humans, we sin daily. Even as we try to walk in the spirit, no one of us is without sin. My son has his own sin struggles that he faces. Though I may not know them all, there is no one who knows them more fully than You do, Lord. My prayer is that You would grant him a heart that is responsive to Your Spirit. When he sins, please bring a conviction to his mind that leads him toward You in repentance.

I know that sin can sometimes bring us shame. Please help him not to hide away from You in shame when he sins. Instead, remind Him of what Christ has done to defeat both sin and shame. Help him to know that there is no condemnation if he is in Christ. Keep him from

growing comfortable in his sins, and continually lead him to a place of remorse and repentance over his sins. May he live in the light of Your grace and be sanctified by Your Spirit.

Prayer for Son’s Community

Father God,

As my son walks on this path of life, he will come across many different people. Some will come in and stay for a season, while others will be by his side for a long time. Though we can not always tell people’s intentions, Lord, I pray that You would grant him discernment. Help him to choose wisely who he befriends, and who he associates with. Remind him that those who surround ourselves with are who we become like. May he find a community who encourages him in his faith.

May they not only be a blessing to him, but may he be a blessing to them. Please remove any relationships in his life that cause him to stumble or that tempt him away from Your ways. I pray that he will find people who he can share his burdens with and who care for his well-being. Help him to seek You for guidance as he chooses who to spend his time with.

Prayer to Resist The World’s Ways

Father,

The world is so eager to influence the way we think, act, live and what we believe. As parents, we can’t shelter our children from the world forever. As they grow, they naturally come in contact with the ways of the world. I know that the world is full of temptation, and it promises more than it can offer. My prayer is that You would help my son to resist the lure of the world. Please help him see it for what it is, and not be fooled by everything that glitters.

I know he desires to feel as though he belongs, just as every human does. Please help him not to compromise his values and faith to be approved by the world. Help him to see that You call Your children to be set apart, not to blend in with the world. Alone, we can do nothing, only through Your Spirit are we able to resist temptation. Please help him to be connected to You as a branch to a vine. Let Your word lead the way as he navigates the world.

Prayer for Son’s Safety

Dear Lord,

There is so much that I wish I could shield my son from. I know I cannot always be present with him, but You can. Whether he lays his head down at night or gets up in the morning; You are present. Please go before him each new day. I know the dangers of the world are not merely physical, but spiritual. My prayer is that You would enfold him in Your armor. From the helmet of salvation all the way down to the shoes of the gospel of peace. May he be protected from the schemes of the enemy against him.

As he sets out into the world, please grant him physical protection. Help him to be vigilant and to be aware of his surroundings. Please keep him from any danger that might befall him. Teach him to hide in You, and find security and refuge in You, in all circumstances.

Prayer for Son’s Purity

Father In Heaven,

You are holy. You have called us to be a holy nation, too, so that we might represent You to the world. I pray that my son’s life will be defined by purity. The world has primarily made purity something that relates to sex. Your word shows it is more than that. Purity is something that relates to many areas of our lives.

My prayer is that my son’s thoughts would be set on You. Please help him to bring any thoughts that are not pleasing to You, to submit to Christ. I pray that the intentions of his heart will be pure. Help him not to do anything out of selfish ambition to ill intent. Help him to flee from situations, shows, or ideas that even have the appearance of evil. Please give him the strength to reject the things that compromise his purity.
