1. A Prayer Of Protection From Psalm 91

A large portion of the battle of life is remembering to acknowledge the Lord and stand firmly in His power. He refers to Himself as “The Almighty.”

But when we are afraid and the pressure of life is closing in, it is easy to forget who we are to Him. Read closely verses 1-3 from Psalm 91 to remind your soul that you are His.

Psalm 91:1-3: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.”

Oh, Most High God,

I praise You because I know I can come to You and find rest in You. I pray, Father, that You will protect me from harm and spare me hardship. Oh, Lord, watch over me with Your loving gaze and orchestrate my path.

Ordain for me blessing, Lord Jesus, and graciously keep me from the snare of the enemy. Hold me fast, close to Your heart, and make me aware of Your presence. Keep me safe and protected.

I declare that You, Oh Lord, are my refuge and fortress. Take all that I have, all my hope, all my trust, and all that I possess, and multiply it so that I can trust You evermore, for You are my safest place.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

2. A Prayer For Safety Under God’s Wings

Scripture refers to God’s Wings in Psalms, Deuteronomy, and Jeremiah. The concept of God’s Wings has been an image for God’s people of protection and refuge for thousands of years.

Psalm 91:4 “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

Great God of the Angel Armies,

Oh, how I long to be under the safety of Your wings. How good and holy You are, Lord Jesus. How righteous, how just. My eyes have seen so much evil and wickedness in the world, and as a result, it is the security of Your holiness that I long for.

I know that in You, is light, and no darkness. I praise You God, because unlike anything else, You, Oh Lord, do not have a dark side; hallelujah! Dear Lord, draw me in, bring me into the safe covering of Your goodness. Wrap Your wings of protection and safety around me, around my family, around my loved ones.

Cover me with Your wings, and allow me to find shelter from the evil in this world. Give me eyes to see Your faithfulness, let me in on Your heart for me. Shield me from the lies around me that tell me anything besides how good and kind You are.

Don’t let me wander off to a lesser refuge than You. I am stretching out my hands toward You, and I receive what You have for me. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

3. A Prayer From Psalm 91 For Your Family

Praying through each piece of the day on behalf of each member of your family is an act of love and faithfulness. Whether your family spends the hours of the day together, or each of you go in different directions during the daytime, asking for the Lord’s blessing and resting in His authority is always available to us.

Psalm 91:5-6 progresses through the events of a 24-hour day and reminds us to give each portion to the Lord expectantly.

Psalm 91: 5-6: “You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.”

 Lord,

I come into Your courts praising You for the love You have for my family. I am amazed when I consider that Your love and tenderness toward them exceeds my love for them. Oh, Lord, You are so good!

The real love and devotion that I hold in my heart for them finds its first source in You. I am a piece of Your love toward them. Show me how to love them well, and how to be a protector. You Lord, eradicate the fears that threaten my peace.

Your power can silence the night. Your protection can catch the arrows aimed at my family. Your holiness shines the light on the darkness around us. We will not fear because we trust You, and we know that You are able, and that You will protect us from the destroyer. We receive it, Lord.

We reject fear, we reject the lies that we are alone in this world. Lord, plant our feet securely and firmly in the reality of Your faithful character. We have confidence in You, Lord; grow us ever more in God-confidence.

When we lay down to sleep, let it be in the peace of God. When we go about our day, let it be in the strength of God. When we go through the afternoon and evenings, let it be in the assurance that You are working and redeeming. Oh, we receive it, Lord!

Holy Spirit, we welcome You, we invite You into the mechanics of our days, let our minute-to-minute lives be filled with an awareness of You. Be in all of it, lock us in, Lord. Protect us from evil, and protect our relationships with each other. Come, Lord Jesus, for it is in Your Powerful Name that we pray, Amen.

4. A Prayer for Sending a Loved One Off to War

Surely there is nothing quite like sending a loved one off to war. The conflicting emotions of pride in your loved one’s bravery and total despair at their personal risk in the war zone. Turn to the Lord in your desperation and pray through Psalm 91:7-8.

Psalm 91:7-8: “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.”

Oh, great and mighty God,

I come to You now on behalf of my precious loved one as they head off to war. Oh, Lord, my heart is breaking at the vulnerability and risk of this mission. Lord, as they go, they are taking my heart with them as well, and I know we will never be the same.

Oh God, the weight of this reality is overwhelming! Lord, take this mission and use it to bring peace to Earth. Deliver the oppressed, bring down the wicked. Lord, the world is at odds with one another, what hope have we apart from Your mercy?

I pray that _____ would go in Your Name, and for Your purposes and be a vessel of Your deliverance to the nations. Bring them home safely to our arms and may many rejoice because of the rescuing power of Your mighty hand in all of our lives. In the powerful Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

5. A Prayer For Peace To Calm Your Anxious Heart

When our hearts feel anxious and peace feels distant, we can close the gap with our prayers. Our God is compassionate and strong, and drawing near to Him can calm our anxious hearts.

Psalm 91:9 encourages us to “dwell”, that is to live, in the presence of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:9: “If you make the Most High your dwelling—even the Lord, who is my refuge—then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.”

Dear Lord,

My heart is wild in my chest. I am so anxious, Lord. I feel the effects of it in my thinking. I feel the effects of it in the tension in my muscles, and I feel the effects of it in my inability to rest. Oh, Lord, how I long for your peace to calm my anxious heart.

I know that Your desire is to meet the racing anxiousness with Your peace. Help me receive it, Lord. Loving God, fill me with the assurance that You are moving in my life, and that the weight is not all on me. Align my actions and thinking with Your will. Orchestrate it all, Lord, according to Your desire to bless all people.

Help my anxious heart find its home in Your dwelling; and quiet my fears, Lord, with Your perfect love that casts out fear. I want to trade the heavy burden of these anxieties for Your guidance and holy motivation.

Let me use this energy toward being responsible and active in Your Kingdom instead of spiraling and derailing my thinking. Give me a holy drive in place of this affliction. I just know that if I stay near to You, Lord, that I will make it and that You will bless it.

I pray for peace that calms my heart, please Holy Spirit, fill my day with glimpses of Your trustworthiness. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

6. A Prayer for Protection in an Abusive Relationship

The suffering of the innocent is one of the hardest realities on this earth. Abuse of power is an offense against God and something that often necessitates professional intervention. This prayer is not intended to replace professional help.

**I am not a counselor, pastor, psychiatrist, or professional. Please seek professional help to keep you and your family safe.***

Psalm 91:11-13 “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.”

Great and mighty God,

Deliver me from the abuse in this relationship. I’ve been convinced this is healthy for too long. I ask You for freedom and blessing as I take action steps toward healing, God.

Let Your truth and wisdom guide me. Please lift me up out of current reality and set my feet on higher ground.

End the destruction in this dynamic Lord, give me bravery to seek out the help and support that I need. Keep my eyes fixed on You and place Your angels all around me.

Lord, I ask that in Your power You would give me the ability to conquer this oppression. Show me the path of deliverance, Lord. In Jesus’ saving Name, Amen.

7. Prayer for Closeness with God

There may come points in our lives where we feel distant from God, or maybe we find ourselves shamed by our own lack of desire to walk in His ways. Even this is something we can bring to God as a request: “Help me want to be close to You.”

Asking God for both the ability and desire to have more closeness with Him is a perfectly appropriate and tender thing to pray for.

Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Holy Spirit,

Oh, how I want to be close with You. I want a minute-to-minute awareness of You. I am not afraid to walk through the challenges of this life, if You will just be close to me. I want more of You, Lord.

Increase my capacity to love You, and fill my busted-up heart and soul with more of You.

Show me that You love me, develop my faith, and build my confidence for Your Name’s sake, and for Your purposes. Protect me from willful sin that would separate You and me, and be with me today and always.

In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
