In life, there are a few things that are as valuable as good health. It is such a gift to experience good health, and it is often something that we can take for granted.
In this world, we will experience imperfect health. We see it all around the world everyday, we experience it in our homes, communities, and churches. A part of living in a broken world is living with illness, pain and suffering at times.
It is only natural for us to desire health, especially when we or someone we love and care about is experiencing health complications.
Though we are living in a world that is ridden with sin, which has shown itself in different ways, including sickness. We also have a living God who is at work in our midst and who we have the privilege to pray to, and to bring our requests before Him.
If you or someone you know or love is experiencing health issues, come to Christ in prayer, He is our healer, our helper and our comfort in times of suffering and disease.
I hope that these prayers for health and healing will draw You closer to Christ as Your hope, and rely on His strength and power to heal, make whole, and to carry you through times of sickness.
5 Prayers for Health & Healing
1. Prayer to Heal from Depression
Heavenly Father,
Please hear the cry of my heart today. I ask that You would turn to me, and answer me. Please have mercy on me, and extend Your compassionate love toward me in this cold and lonely season of depression.
It’s hard to get the words out, Lord. It has been hard to get up, to feel joy, or any sense of motivation of purpose these days. I feel like I am losing my way, and I know You alone are the one who is not only the way but leads me on the path of life.
Please shine Your light of life and hope on the path before me. Please light the darkness that has surrounded me, and drown out any ounce of hope. Help me to seek You, and to find You.
Forgive me for the things I have turned to, to feel something, and to cope with the thoughts that I am having. I know that nothing in this world can satisfy the ache and emptiness that I have felt, apart from Christ.
Even when I don’t feel on days, please help me to take Your word to heart, and to allow it to shape what I believe, rather than allowing my own intrusive thoughts to decide on what is true.
Please pull me out of this pit of depression and bring healing to my hurting soul. Place Your joy and gladness in my heart, and lift up my spirit, Lord. In Jesus’, precious name, amen.
2. Prayer for Health
Lord,
Out of all the wonderful gifts that You give to us, I just want to take some time to thank You for the gift of health. There is nothing quite as precious as our health, and the ability that it gives us to serve You, and to partake in Your beautiful creation.
Today, I want to pray for the health of my loved ones and I. You alone are the source of health, and You give and take as You see fit, Lord. My prayer is that You would extend Your grace towards me and my loved ones.
Please keep us safely protected from the dangers of everyday life. As we leave home and make our way back, please protect us from physical harm, and keep Your hedge of protection all around us.
If any of my loved ones are struggling with their health today, I ask that You restore their health and give them strength. Please make Your presence known to them, and help them to rely on You and confide in You.
Please help us to be good stewards of the health and the strength that You give us each day. Help us to work heartily in all that we do, not as to man, but as those who are working for You, and Your glory.
Help us to serve You and others, and to use our health in a way that benefits Your kingdom, and puts the gifts that You gave us to use. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
3. Prayer to Relieve Pain
Father,
I look to You today, knowing that my hope and my help is in You. There is no pain, no illness, no suffering that is too great for us to find consolation, hope and healing in You. That is a truth that I hold onto dearly.
Thank You for reminding me that this world is not my home, and that the pain and discomfort of this world will come to an end when Christ, our hope, returns. In the meantime, my body is not left untouched by the pain of this world, and the suffering that comes with it.
Today I want to lay down the pain that I am experiencing at Your feet. Please bring relief to the pain that I am feeling, and soothe the aches of my heart and body. If it is Your will, please heal this broken body of mine, and restore me to health.
Please help me to lean on Your strength, especially on days when mine has failed, and the pain has become unbearable to manage. Help me to take the necessary medication to manage the pain, and to help me with the things that I need to do.
Help me to seek Your comforting hand when I am experiencing discomfort, and to fall on Your healing hand when I am feeling pain. Please help me to remain encouraged, and not to allow the pain of now, to keep my eyes of the hope of forever in Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
4. Prayer for Surgery
Lord,
As I prepare for surgery, I want to commit my trust and health to You. I know that my life is in Your hands, and that You are the one who gives life. Thank You for blessing me with life, and for Your grace over me daily.
There are so many components to surgery, but the ultimate hope is for surgery to go well, and for healing and healing to follow. My prayer is that You would be with me, as I go through surgery and as I recover from surgery.
Please bless the hands of those who will be operating on me. Help them to work steadily, and to remain focused throughout the surgery. I ask that You direct them, and give them wisdom. Help them to remain calm, and to work to the best of their ability.
May this surgery lead my health to improve, rather than deteriorate. Please help me to recover well after the surgery, and to adhere to the guidelines that the doctors give me. Help me to rest, and to allow my body to heal.
Please help me to endure any pain that I will feel due to the surgery. I ask that You would help me to manage those pains, and to be disciplined to take the necessary medication when needed. Help me be patient in the healing process.
Fill me with Your peace as I prepare for surgery, and help me to lean on Your strength. Help me to trust You with my life, and to trust in Your wisdom and ways for my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. Prayer for Family and Friends Who Are Sick
Lord,
I am so grateful for the loved ones that You have placed into my life. I feel blessed to know them, and to have the opportunity to pray for them, and for their health and well-being.
I would like to pray especially for my friends and family who are going through various health issues. You know those who are struggling physically, and mentally. You know the pain that they are experiencing, and the burdens that they carry.
My prayer is that You would strengthen those who have suffered from physical illness, and those who have had their physical ability stripped from them due to illness. Please grant them Your strength, and bless them with Your healing power.
I pray for those who have been struggling with unexplained pains, and symptoms that don’t seem to go away. Please give them and the doctors that they are seeing wisdom to get to the root of the problem and to tend to it before it gets out of hand.
I pray for my friends and family who are struggling with chronic illness and have come to terms with the illness being a part of the rest of their lives. I know that You can heal them, and ease their pain. If it is Your will, please restore them.
Whether in health or in sickness, my greatest prayer is that my family and friends would know You, personally. May they lean on Christ, and find their hope, comfort and strength in You in every season of their lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
