Welcome to The Prayer Pocket by Becky!
I’m Becky, owner, and organizer of the prayers on this site, and I am so thrilled that you are here.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.“
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Pray continually.
That’s the reason this site exists.
I believe we serve an almighty God who loves when we seek Him.
I’ve been a Christian for over 20 years. I am currently on the teaching team for the women’s Bible study at my local church as well as being a table leader to guide our small group’s discussions on the lessons.
I’ve been on prayer teams, worship teams, and care teams over the years, and I use my prayer journal daily as a way to connect with the Lord and regularly lift up the needs of loved ones in my life.
I’ve prayed and journaled hundreds of thousands of prayers, asking, seeking, knocking…crying, praising, and rejoicing.
I’ve seen prayers answered time and time again and grieved prayers that haven’t been answered (at least, not in the way I’d hoped).
Because our God is powerful, there is so much power in prayer.
How The Prayer Pocket Began
One night in 2020, after my first son was born at the beginning of the pandemic, I was bouncing him and pacing his room, desperate for him to fall asleep. He was so colicky, I was so sleep-deprived, and I was desperate for God’s help…but I had no idea what to say.
I googled, “prayers for parents with a colicky baby” at 3am and…nothing came up.
I felt so discouraged and so alone. And I didn’t want any other parent of a colicky baby to feel this way.
I was determined to fix it. I wanted to help people put words to their feelings in prayer in the midst of their most desperate moments (and all of life’s other moments in between).
And so, The Prayer Pocket began.
About The Prayer Pocket
Sometimes it’s hard to know what to pray and that’s what we’re here for.
Not to tell you the “right” or “wrong” way to pray.
Just to inspire you to pray.
Pray silently, pray out loud, write your prayers, cry your prayers, yell your prayers…just pray.
The Prayer Pocket is full of topics you’ve maybe never even thought about praying for with examples of prayers to get your mind and your heart started.
Why The Prayer Pocket?
Whenever I have gone through an especially tough time, I feel like my brain doesn’t think well.
So, instead of trying to think of words in the moment (when my mind was often just blank), I started writing a short prayer on a notecard, folding it in half, and carrying it around in my back pocket.
When I felt stressed, anxious, or frustrated throughout the day, I didn’t have to depend on my brain to think well.
I just pulled out my card from my prayer pocket and prayed.
You don’t have to be going through a tough time to benefit from carrying a prayer in your pocket!
In the best of times, the worst of times, and every moment in between, that simple, tangible reminder to lay your requests and praise at Jesus’ feet and wait with great expectations is a beautiful thing…a life-changing thing.
Whether you start using a notecard in your very own prayer pocket or not, we hope you use these prayers to suit up to be a prayer warrior, line the walls of your war room, and draw nearer to God every day of your life.
About My Prayers
Some of the prayers on this website are my own, spoken and written from my own personal experiences.
Some of the prayers here were written by friends and other people I’ve met along the way who have offered to share prayers they’ve prayed from their own personal experiences.
We have prayers here for just about everything:
- prayers for your day
- prayers for your family (your marriage, your children, etc)
- prayers for health & healing
- prayers for special occasions
- …and so much more!
More About Becky
In addition to running this website, I’m a wife, a mom of two boys, and our family lives in Texas.
I’m an INFJ, an Enneagram 2, and an introvert who loves deep conversations with friends and curling up under a cozy blanket with a good book.
My perfect day starts with journaling, a few minutes of quiet, and my worship playlist on Spotify before I get my boys up for breakfast and a neighborhood walk.
I have a quirky border collie who loves squirrels and back scratches and is afraid of the sound of chopping onions. He is always underfoot and just about the most loyal dog around.
And, most of all, I love the Lord and make it a daily goal to pray without ceasing.
I can’t even begin to describe the life-changing benefits of a consistent prayer life (but here are just 10 of the top benefits of prayer), but I know I want you to experience them, too.
Will you join me?
