8 Prayers for a Job Interview

1. Prayer for a Peaceful Mind
Father in Heaven,
Thank You for this opportunity to be interviewed for a job position. This is something that I have hoped and prayed for, and I am so thankful that You have blessed me with it. I confess, though I am grateful, I am also feeling anxious. I have thoughts about it not working out, or saying or doing the wrong thing.
The more I think about it, the more anxious I feel. But I know that You give peace that isn’t dependent on my circumstances. I ask that You bless me with that peace during my interview. Please remove any feelings of anxiety from me, and help me to steady my mind on You. Help me trust You, regardless of the outcome of this interview. Remind me that You are with me, and that I can rest in Your peace. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
2. Prayer for Wisdom During Interview
As this job interview approaches, I ask that You would guide me in Your wisdom. Your word says that You will give wisdom to those who ask of You, and You will give it generously. Today, I ask that You would shower me with Your wisdom, and understanding, as I prepare for my job interview. Please help me not to rely on my own understanding but to seek and rely on Your guidance.
When there are difficult questions or assessments, I ask that You guide me through them. Please bring to remembrance all the information that I will need to get through this interview. If this job is meant for me, I ask that You would help the interviewer see that I am the right person for this job. Please help me when I feel uncertain. Help me not to be distracted by anxious or fearful thoughts, but to keep my eyes fixed on You, and the interview that is before me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. Prayer to Work for the Lord
Dear God,
I am so thankful that You have given me a new life. Thank You that every part of my life, including my work, has a new lens and meaning through which I can see it. As I prepare for this job interview, remind me that the work that I do, is not ultimately for man, but that it is ultimately for You. Help me to keep this in mind as I go through my interview.
May I answer every question, and complete every test to the best of my ability, being sober minded, calm, and diligent. Help me not to be discouraged, or to fear man, but to submit all that I do to You. May everything I do be done with grace, and honor. I ask that You bless this interview, and allow it to be successful. If this job is what You have for me, I ask that You would help me to work each day for You, and for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
4. Prayer of Dependence on God
Lord,
Everything in all creation is dependent on You. I am dependent on You every day, whether that is for the air that I breathe, for the food that I eat, or even for the hope that I cling to each day. Thank You so much for all that You are to me, and all that You do for me daily. I don’t ever want to exclude You out of certain parts of my life. That is why I am asking that You be with me as I prepare for this job interview.
Please help me not to lean on my own strengths and understanding, but to remember that I am ultimately dependent on You for all things. As I prepare, and as I go through the interview, I ask that You would carry me through it. Help me to depend on You for guidance, peace, and wisdom throughout the interview. Help me to go through this interview, knowing that You are with me, and that the outcome is ultimately in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. Prayer to Use Your God-Given Gifts
Father,
You are intentional in everything that You do. When You created me, You knew who I would be, what I would be like, and the specific gifts that You would give me. As I get ready for the interview that lies ahead, I ask that You would help me to put the gifts that You have given me on display in a humble yet confident way. Help me to demonstrate the gifts and skills that
You have blessed me with during the interview.
I ask that You would help me to meet the requirements that they are looking for, and to see that I am a diligent and dependent worker. May they see You through me, and in everything that I do. Help me to glorify You in this interview, and hopefully in this job if You choose to bless me with it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
6. Prayer for the Right Words
Lord,
Thank You for blessing me with this interview. I ask that You would be with me through every step of the process. I know that it is not something that I can do on my own, and that I am dependent on You for all things. Please help me remember this as I go through the interview. Help me to lean on You for guidance, wisdom and for the right words to say. Please keep me from being overwhelmed with anxiety and fear.
Instead, help me to keep my thoughts steadied on You. You are the God of wisdom, and there is nothing that escapes Your knowledge and understanding. I ask that You would help me to speak with clarity and confidence. Help me not to rush through the interview, but to answer calmly and with certainty. Please help me to communicate clearly and effectively. When I stumble, please guide my lips, and give me the words to say. In Jesus’ name, amen.
7. Prayer for Godly Confidence
Father,
There is nothing that is too hard for You. Though this interview may seem daunting to me, it is not something that scares You or that You cower under. As this interview approaches, I ask that You would help me to find strength in You. Please help me to seek Your wisdom, and rely on Your strength to get through this interview. Keep me from any sense of boasting or pridefulness. Help me to remember that all I have, including my skills and this opportunity comes from You.
Please empower me not with prideful confidence, but with a godly confidence that trusts in You. Help me not to think too much of the outcome of this interview, but rather just to lean on You every step of the way. Help me to remember that You are with me, so I don’t have to fear or be anxious. Please grant me Your peace, and help me to make the best of this interview. In Jesus’ name, amen.
8. Prayer to Trust in God
Lord in Heaven,
There is nothing that happens that You are not sovereign over. This is something I ask that You would help me to remember every day, but especially for this interview. Remind me that You have already gone before me, so I don’t have to fear. You know what lies in my future, and if this job is a part of it, or if it isn’t, I ask that You help me trust in You.
Please rid me of anxiety over the outcome of this interview, and help me to be present. Guide me through every question, and help me to answer soberly, and with attentiveness. If there is any question that I feel unprepared for, please help me to think through it, instead of rushing through it.
Help me to be honest, and to do everything to the best of my abilities. Please give me clarity of mind, and help me to rest in Your peace. I know that Your plans for my life are better than my plans. I ask that You would establish my footsteps and that You would be glorified not only through this interview but also in the outcome. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
