Seeking relief from pain? Use these prayers to bring comfort and healing to help you find solace, strength, and hope in your time of need.
When you’re dealing with pain, it can be a heavy burden throughout your day, and interfere with your daily life. Whether you are dealing with pain from an injury, an accident or an illness, it is only natural to seek relief from pain. You may even be experiencing emotional pain, which can be hard to manage.
In your time of pain, and discomfort, God welcomes you to bring your requests and lay down your burdens before Him. Through prayer, you can tell God about the pain you are experiencing and ask Him to provide you with comfort, pain relief, and peace.
We not only find relief from our pain, but we can find strength to endure the hardship and work through the pain and healing that we are experiencing. Whether God takes your pain away immediately, or it still tarries on for a while, or even for a lifetime, we can lean on Him for strength, and hold onto Him for hope that extends beyond our pain in this world.
Paul said it so well when he spoke about the present suffering we experience and how it compares to the future glory that awaits us. In Romans 8:18-21 he says:
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
I hope that God will remind you of His goodness and that you will find the comfort, relief and strength that you need as you seek Him in earnest prayer.
5 Prayers for Relief from Pain
1. Short Prayer for Pain Relief
Sometimes when you are feeling a rush of pain, or even if your pain is constant and making you feel uncomfortable, it can be helpful to turn to God in prayer right in that moment. You don’t have to say a long prayer for it to be effective and for God to hear you. You can say a short prayer, asking God to relieve you of the pain you are experiencing at the moment.
Lord,
I need You. I know that this pain I am experiencing isn’t unknown to You. I ask that You would hear my cry, and attend to my plea. Please help me with this aching pain, and bring relief to the parts of me that are hurting.
I ask that You would stretch Your hand out toward me, and heal me, if it is Your will. Please grant me the strength to endure this pain, and to find comfort in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. Prayer for Chronic Pain
If you struggle with chronic pain, you know better than anyone that it not only expands to the physical pain and discomfort that you are feeling but the emotional and mental tax that it has on your overall health. Chronic pain not only takes a toll on your physical health and energy but it can cause your mental health to be affected as you try and manage your day to day life.
Father,
Today I am reminded of Your mercy that is new every morning. I confess, some days it is hard to hold onto that gratitude when I feel overcome with pain and the effects of living with chronic pain, on both my mind and my body.
If there is one thing that I am learning, it’s that, even in the pain that never goes away, You are good. Even in the discomfort that lingers on, You are compassionate. Even in the brokenness of my current body, there is hope that far outweighs any degree of pain that I am experiencing right now.
It’s not always easy to remember this truth, yet even on those days when I feel as though my present suffering is too much to handle, You are there, patient and compassionate toward me. And for that, I cannot thank You enough.
Help me to know that I am never alone, and that You will never leave or forsake me. If it is Your will, Lord, I ask that You would remove this pain from me. Yet, if it is not, I ask that You would use it to draw me closer to You, and bring You glory even in my pain.
When the pain feels like it is overbearing, and my mind moves into despair, I ask that You would help to turn to You. Please remind me on the days when I feel as though I have no strength, that I can lean on You for strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. Prayer For Emotional Pain
When it comes to pain, it can be easy to overlook emotional pain because it is often something that is easy to hide. Unlike a broken leg, a broken heart is not always easy to spot.
Yet, we can find comfort in knowing that we serve a God who not only cares for our physical health, but who, according to Psalm 34:18 is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
God cares about you, and the pain that you are experiencing. In prayer you can confide in God, and ask Him to help you heal from the emotional pain that you are experiencing.
Lord,
My heart feels so weighed down, and my emotions feel as though they are spiraling out of control. Some days I don’t know how to manage what I am feeling, and the pain that seems to pierce straight through my heart. But one thing I know is that You are with me in my hurting, and close to my broken heart.
I ask that You use the pain that I am experiencing to draw me near to You, rather than away from You. Please help me to find comfort in Your presence, and keep me from looking at worldly ways of suppressing my pain and coping with it.
Please renew in me a steadfast and hopeful spirit. Help me to keep my eyes focused on You, and to lean on Your strength when I am weak. Keep me from drowning in despair and feeling hopeless.
Help me to heal in the places that are hurting and to forgive where necessary. I ask that Your Holy Spirit would lead me, and help me not to be led by my emotions or how I am feeling in the moment. Please provide me with comfort and peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
4. Prayer for Relief and Healing
Our natural inclination when it comes to pain is to desire healing, and relief. So when you are experiencing pain, one of the best things you can do is seek God in prayer for healing and relief from the pain that you’re experiencing.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for a new day, and the opportunity to bring my burdens before You. Today, I want to come to You and ask for healing for my health.
I ask that You would lift me up in my weakness, and carry me in times when it feels too much to handle. Please bring relief to the pain that I am experiencing, and bring healing to my body.
Even in the pain, remind me of Your love for me, and Your compassion and kindness that You extend to me daily. Help me to look to You, and rest in Your comfort and peace.
When I feel overwhelmed, or discouraged, help me to remember that the pain that I am experiencing is only momentary and that one day there will be no pain and no tears, because You will wipe each one of them away. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. Prayer For Pain After Surgery
Whether you have undergone major surgery or had to get surgery for something that is less serious, surgery can often be daunting. Often surgeries involve cuts, which will require stitches and healing afterward.
Depending on the kind of surgery you get, you can experience pain for various lengths of time, and the healing process can look different from person to person. If you are experiencing pain after surgery, this prayer is for you.
Lord,
I am grateful that the surgery went well, and that I came through on the other side. Thank You for being with me throughout the surgery and for guiding the doctor and hospital staff as they performed the surgery.
Now that the surgery is over, it’s time to walk the path of healing. I ask that You would help there be no complications as my body heals from this surgery, and help it to recover speedily.
Help me to take the necessary rest that I need, and not to try and overextend myself during this time. Please bring healing not only to my wounds but to any pain or issues that are in my body. In Jesus’ name, amen.
